Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my boyfriend had viral meningitis in January and is cured now. He has lost his sex drive. I asked him if it was to do with me. I am seventy and he is seventy seven. I am not bad looking and very willing to participate in sex. Does meningitis have anything to do with this loss?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Meningitis can result in an immunocompromised (weakened immune system) of the body. Weakened immune system can result in low testosterone production & hence loss of libido. Intake of certain steroids, medications (side effects), poor diet, stress or anxiety can lead to low testosterone production. Help him take nutritious diet, stay out of stress & addictions if any. Check out the medications he has been taking & talk to the treating doctor about side effects if any. Let him take good sleep & sufficient Probiotics.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
