Does Milk Lower The Efficiency Of Sotalol?

I have heard that milk affects the efficacy of sotalol, which I take for atrial fibrillation (I am 76 and otherwise v. healthy). Does it reduce or render the sotalol ineffective if taken- with milk in the stomach/with milk taken near the time of taking the tablet? Sorry -I don t have a credit card (never have had) B.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, taking sotalol with milk decreases absorption, also taking with food reduces the absorption of the drug. Tablets should be taken with water, one to two hours before meals.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
