Hi My mother has been diagnosed with Mild cerebral atrophy with periventricular white matter ischemic changes. Chronic infarct in left insular/putamen. Currently, she felt weak in her right hand and leg and could not balance properly. The doctor has prescribed her aspirin and possibly diagnosed as minor stroke. Is that correct with this symptoms of weak right hand and right leg?
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
I think he's correct, the brain lesions you describe correspond to her symptoms. The left part of her brain commands her left limbs, that's why the symptoms. Aspirin is the usual treatment to prevent further strokes. Another alternative could be Clopidogrel or combination of Aspirin + Dipyridamole, but Aspirin alone is effective as well. Of course should pay attention to other factors if present, like high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, obesity, blood lipids.
I hope to have been of help.
