Does Nausea And Vomiting During Pregnancy Harm The Baby?

I am a 23 year old female who is 17 weeks pregnant with my first child. So far I have had a normal healthy pregnancy. I had a dramatic stressful situation with my mother and family today. I have been nauseated and vomiting for the last hr. I am scared the growing fetus may be under stress... will my baby be ok?

Dear,

Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is a known problem. If it does not lead to dehydration and/or starvation, usually the baby does not get affected.

Please take care to take sufficient hydration with required salts. Oral rehydration solutions are very good in such condition, if you can retain them. If everything is thrown out, then you may have to get fluids with electrolytes and nutrition through intravenous route.

This is a transient episode due to stress. You will be OK. Try to get rid of the stress.

One word of caution. Please do not take any medicine to stop vomiting without Obstetrician's advice as many medicines to stop vomiting have got bad effect on the baby.

I hope you are satisfied with the answer.
