Does Nicotine Reduces Inflammation?

I have quit smoking using the nicoderm patch, but have developed muscle pain in both lower arms, and weakness in them. my doc is tesing me for Polymyositis. I have tried to quit smoking twice before over the last 2 years, using the patch, and the same thing happens with my muscles... I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and both previous times my arthritis went haywire after quitting for a couple of months. In both instances I returned to smoking and within 2 days all symptoms went away. Is there a connection between nicotine and inflammation - ie nicotine reducing body inflammation. (I am a 48y/o female. 230lbs)
