Does One Can Discontinue Taking High Blood Pressure Medicine?

hi,

I have high blood pressure, on Bendrafluozide, enalapril, betalocker and doxazossin to control it. It still is fairly high... 150/92 .... when I stop medication my heart beats really fast and I am not well at all. Does this indicate that I will never be able to stop the medication?

Thanks for the query.
As per the history (you haven't mentioned your age or gender), you are suffering from hypertension (high blood pressure) and on multiple drug regimen for the same (Bendroflumethazide - diuretic, Enalapril - ACEI, Beta-Blocker and Doxazosin - alpha blocker). Despite this your blood pressure is in the high range 150/92 mm of Hg.
In this situation it is not advisable to stop the medications, since it may lead to accelerated hypertension. You may go for investigations like lipid profile, blood sugar (to rule out concomitant Diabetes mellitus), 12 lead ECG (to check for end organ changes due to hypertension) and echocardiography (to check the contractile action of your heart). If you are comparatively young secondary causes of hypertension needs to be ruled out. Salt restriction in diet is very important and must be strictly carried out.
I would advise you to consult your Cardiologist since a review of the drug regimen may be needed and other investigations may be required.
(As per the JNC viii guidelines, if you are>60 yrs your BP should be maintained Hope this helps you.
