Does Pain In The Jaw While Swallowing Need Medical Attention?

My dad is 84 years young - very active, just retired this past summer, and in general good health. He s not one to complain or to rest much during the day. However, today he napped/rested a bit (couple of hours) this morning and is experiencing pain in his left jaw - more so when he swallows. He does not have a sore throat. Of course, it is Saturday and his doctor s office is closed. Should he go to urgent care?

hello,
welcome to healthcaremagic

most probable cause for the complaints is a muscle spasm..
for which i advice-
TAB FLEXON MR 1 tab BD for 2 days.
TAB PANTOP 40mg Before breakfast.

however since he is quite aged i would like to rule out some diseases-

1. oesophageal carcinoma- by barium swallow
2. jaw cancer- CECT head. or ortho pento gram of jaw.

also some more detailed history is required like duration of pain, dysphagia, dysphagia to solids or liquids, weight loss, anorexia etc.

kindly refer to a gastroenterologist or an ENT surgeon.

hope this helps.
thank you
