Does Pain Medication Aggravate My Breathing Difficulty?

Hello, I have been suffering from bronchitis for about 20 days now, I have not had a productive cough for over two weeks, now more of a dry cough and chest tightness and discomfort on right side. I am scuduled for cosmetic surgery 5 days from now and will be taking Percocet for pain following the procedure. I will be undergoing IV sedation, but will now be intubated. I am worried about if the pain medicine will cause me breathing difficulties. I also would like to know if I can still use my nebulizer while on the pain meds.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If the cough is no longer productive then your infection is improving.

Based on this fact, it is unlikely that the medication would have any significant impact on your respiration but you would need to disclose all of your symptoms to your doctor.

The anesthesiologist will likely examine you to make sure that you are suitable for surgery.

I hope this helps
