Does Pigmentation And Redness On Dried Skin Require Medical Attention?
I have a small dried skin patch for a week now and the area seemed to have darkened my skin colour. My doctor suggested I see a dermatologist which I have scheduled an appointment. However, last night on the same side of my neck, it seemed to be red - I was wearing a red scarf around perhaps that irritated my skin. But just shortly I noticed some sort of redness around the inner fold of my arm (joint). Is that something to be concerned about?
I can understand your concern for pigmentation and redness on dried skin. It appears from your query that you have developed contact dermatitis in contact wit the cloth of the scarf which is causing the redness and dryness.
In all your kind of cases I suggest my patients to avoid contact with the offending agent. For interim of the relief I suggest my patients to apply hydrocortisone cream and for any irritation I suggest them to apply calamine lotion. In case if the itching is on higher side then I suggest them to take an antihistamine such as Benadryl or cetrizine. DO not touch or scratch the area as it can cause more aggravation. You can take further guidance from the treating dermatologist. All the best.
