hi doctor. ive got my last menses on 20th oct and didnt got it since now. ive been to the doc and pregnancy test was negative. he prscribed me premolut pills to be taken twice daily for 5 days so that i got my menses. tthen while i was talking to a friend who got her menses too much for long also got primolut as well and her doc told her it will reduce her menses till it stop. im a bit confused and want to know it primolut is for stopping menses or getting menses. plz help.
Primolut contains Norethisterone which is a derivative of female hormone progesterone. These drugs can be used to postpone periods and also used to reduce excessive bleeding. Yet, the dose and duration of drug use will differ in both conditions. Administering the hormone from outside will inhibit the hormone production in your body thereby reducing any excess hormone levels leading to regularization of your cycles.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
