9 years ago i became severely bulimic. before i figured out the easiest methods of purging i used to force myself so hard that id pop blood vessels in my eyes and id wake up the next day with a lot of neck and upper back pain. a few years later after i stopped my bulimic behavior i started having chronic neck pain. i found out i have 2 bulging disks in my neck. ive never been in a car accident and the only time i can ever remember having neck pain (not just sore or tight muscles) was after a hard spell of purging. today i still suffer with the pain if i do not keep up with stretching. the few doctors i have seen say the injury cant be from vomiting but i really dont know any other cause. is there a chance that severe purging could have caused this?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Excessive vomiting may lead to increase in pressure in spinal cord and thus disc prolapse may result in aggravation of neck pain. You should avoid excessive vomiting or over straining. Physiotherapy helps in chronic neck pain.
