Does Quitting Smoking Cause Hoarse Voice?

Hello. I gave up smoking five days ago and have some concerns about my voice. I seem to be going hoarse during conversation. I was wondering if this might be to do with quitting smoking and how long will it last? I drank a fairly sizeable amount of coffee today also (6 mugs approx) and very little/no water. Thanks for your help.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Smoking can cause throat irritation and hoarseness but smoking cessation is not normally known to cause this.

The other causes are : viral infection such as the common cold or flu, allergies, overuse of the voice.

If you rest your voice, drink a lot of fluids this should help.

In some persons a humidifier is also useful.

I hope this helps
