Does Spastic Pareparesis Get Worse And Is There Any Treatment?

HI i JUST WENT TO TO THE NEUROLOGIST TODAY AND HE SAID iI HAVE SPASTIC PAREPARESIS. I AM A 48 YEAR OLD FEMALE OTHERWISE IN GOOD HEALTH. THEY ARE DOING A SERIES OF TESTS T RULE OUT ANY OTHER CAUSES . DOES THIS CONDITION GET WORSE AND IS THERE ANY TREATMENT?

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and diagnosis made by your doctor.

In spastic paraparesis, there is weakness of both legs and the tone of legs is increased.

MRI of spine is required to find out the cause.

It may be caused by infection such as tuberculosis or tumors in spinal cord. In both these conditions, the condition can worsen, if not treated.

On the other hand, if appropriate treatment is given, such as anti-Tb treatment for tuberculosis and surgery in case of tumors, then, we can stop the progression.

Physiotherapy would also be beneficial.
