Does Swollen, Red And Sore Tonsil With Bleeding Suggest Cancer?
I have one tonsil slightly more swollen than the other. Red and sore. My right tonsil has a little smaller than a pea size hard spot. Bleeds when I try to remove what I think may be a tonsil stone, since I do have them. However nothing comes out. Recently, in the past week or so I have right side ear pain and feel like my whole right side of my jaw line and neck is swollen. Feels almost numb. When I attempted to see if it was a tonsil stone, the tonsil pushed outwards and I noticed a smaller bump growing directly above it in the corner that you wouldn t normally see if you didn t push on tonsil to expose. Could this be cancer? ~Worried
Hello, You most likely have very infected tonsils. You may have an abscess that will not release a stone, but needs antibiotic treatment and possible removal of the tonsils if medication can not resolve the infection, Recurrent episodes of infection will result in a removal recommendation. Realize tonsils are a first line of defense and if chronic infections occur, the inflammation is too great and they become too uncomfortable to do their job. The numbness that you report indicate an infection that has spread. Rinse with warm salt water, avoid irritants and take some Antiinflammitory medication such as Tylenol or Advil. Visit your Doctor or Ear nose and throat specialist to determine your necessary treatment. This sounds like a situation that will get worse without professional care. Cancer or tumors are a possibility. Your doctor will give you a diagnosis and put your mind at ease. Thank you for your inquiry.
