I have been taking 50 Mg Aetenolol for 15 Years. It has controlled my BP effectively. I do not have diabetes in my family. Suddenly three months back I was diagnosed with diabetes. Is that side effect of Aetenolol?
Hi welcome to Health care magic..........
Atenelol belongs to the class of beta blocker which causes glucose intolerence means it can precipitate Diabetes if one has it , so it is usually contraindicated in diabetic.
But the drug itself causing diabetes is unheard off.
You could have diabetes which could have been precipitated by it.
You consult your pnysician and get the drug changed to other class of anti hypertensives called ACE inihibitors , which are good in patients with diabetes and hypertension.
