Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m just concerned about taking DHEA & only 10 mg. It has been described for me by my Physician as part of Biodentical HRT. Just afraid of the side effects is all! I know it does have good benefits for men & woman. I just started taking my 1st pill today, but reading about the side effect worries me!
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is also known as androstenolone, which is an endogenous steroid hormone. DHEA is possibly safe when taken by mouth, applied to the skin and used inside the vagina appropriately, when used on a short-term basis. DHEA is possibly unsafe when taken by mouth in high doses or long-term. It is recommended not use DHEA in doses higher than 50-100 mg a day or for a long period of time. It can cause some side effects like acne, hair loss, stomach upset and high blood pressure. Some women can have changes in menstrual cycle, facial hair growth and a deeper voice after taking DHEA. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
