Does Taking Marijuana Affect The Recovery Of The Hand Post Surgery?

Hello I had a surgery on my hand in which I cut the tendons on my pinky and ring finger and I had it stitched up. My hand is in recovery on a cast and I was wondering if smoking or vaping marijuana will negatively affect me. I was taking pain medication and it had no effect on me whatsoever.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, but probably not to an amount that is noticeable. Smoking lowers circulation so areas get less oxygen and nutrients to heal. If someone has circulation issues this is important. Feet have single blood supply into them but hands have two. There are a lot of people with bad foot and leg circulation, and almost nobody with hand circulation problems.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman
