General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Tape worm infestation is a serious condition in pregnancy. It deprives the mother & child of essential nutrient factors- making baby under developed & mother is weak so,pregnancy more risky. Before getting tense ,you & your friend should get pathological tests like stools routine/microscopic examination as well as blood test for antibodies against the worm. Considering the effects of tapeworm on pregnancy, it's better to seek medical attention in time.( though you can very well wait for a couple of days ,till you reach home) Till then if you get signs like nausea, diarrhea, weakness, fatigue- inform the doctor you consult about your doubt of exposure to tape worm infestation. He may consider giving anti tapeworm dose to you. Thanks.
