Does The Blood Group Change Over A Period Of Time?

Hello, I have recently gave blood as a donor. I have just received donor card saying that my blood group is A+. This is a surprise to me as I have always been told by doctors that I was A-. Is it possible for your blood group to change without you having any operations or transplants...or this is just an error..?

Many thanks!

Infectious Diseases Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
I understand your concern.
I am Dr. Arun Tank, infectious diseases specialist, answering your query.

It is likely to be some mistakes.

Blood group is decided at the time before birth. If your blood group is A -ve than it remains as it is for life time.

Blood grouping is the inherent property of ones life. If it is negative than it remains negative.

You should check your blood group again at the more reliable site and keep it as record. This record keeping can help you in future for blood donation or in receiving blood from donor.

This is serious matter if you or some one else receives wrong blood than it will be life threatening condition.

I will be happy to answer your further concern, you can ask me on bit.ly/DrArun.
Thank you.
