Does The Iron Infusions Reduce Hemoglobin Levels?

I had a blood infusion done and followed up by an immediate blood test, cbc. Two hours later my Doc called and said my hgb level dropped and had to get an immediate blood transfusion, second one in two weeks. Does the iron infussions cause my hgb s to drop like this always?

1. No, iron infusions do not reduce hemoglobin levels.
2. Drop in hemoglobin could be due to hemolysis or wrong report during first evaluation. Hemolysis could be due to allergic reaction to iron (possible, but it would be severe) or other causes, which a peripheral smear would identify.
3. If you have severe anemia or mild and moderate anemia with cardiac failure, then only blood transfusion of packed red cells is necessary. No, iron infusions never cause. See, if you have allergic reaction.
