If you are 43years old and have thyroid problems is it a given that early menopause will happen ? My daughter has told me she has been having spotting two weeks after her period. Cramping is very painful. All her life she has been regular every month. Now the cycle starts early a few days each month changing the cycle completely over time.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Spectrum from heavy menstruation, absent menses (amenorrhea) or infrequent menses (oligomenorrhea ) may occur with hypothyroidism. Infrequent menses are more common. Absent or infrequent menses are the most common abnormalities seen with severe hyperthyroidism. This is because an increase in thyroid hormone indirectly causes an increase in sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), which can prevent ovulation. So, please check your thyroid status, also check for insulin resistance or PCOD and get treated accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query.
