Hi, I am 7 weeks pregnant and first time pregnant. I have gardnerella and both me and my hustband have ureaplasma urealyctum and have been working with a doctor to treat them. We have been on several rounds of different antibiotics but still are testing positive for ureaplasma. From what I have read, it sounds like ureaplasma can be quite dangerous for complications in pregnancy like preterm birth and delivering your baby vaginally. I m really nervous about miscarriage and I would hope to deliver my baby naturally. What should be our next steps?
Yes indeed, a strong course of antibiotics will be necessary. It would be best to prevent normal vaginal delivery as the risk for transmission of the infection to the fetus exists. Until and unless your doctor is sure the infection will not be a threat to the baby, do not go ahead with a normal vaginal delivery. For now all we can do is to continue with the antibiotics and hope all goes well.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
