Does Varying Of Titers Mean That Syphilis Has Recurred ?
Hi i was treated for syphilis at 16, i am now 39 years of age. I thought that once treated i would be ok. my titers go up and down from 1:2 to 1:4 and my OB seems to think i need treatment again. I had three series of shots and i was not sexually active with anyone for awhile after that, so what does this mean when my titers are 1:4?
Following adequate and correct treatment for early syphilis, it may take at least 6 months to become nonreactive and in Late syphilis, it may take an year to become a nonreactive titre. Moreover between 2 and 4 one slot difference. It could be possible with different laboratory or with different technician in expressing the same. So nothing to worry. Be sure your physician is well versed in treating syphilis and knowing the latest dosage schedule. Dr S.Murugan
