Does Weight Lifting Cause Pain In The Neck And Chest?

For the past 3 months, i heve had symptoms of throat tightness, some pain in my throat that radiates to my sternum area. I have a history of Barrett’s but a recent endoscopy and motility text along with 24 hr acid monitring showed no abnormalities. I’ve also had spells where I lose energy and my mood darkens for short periods of time mostly later in the day. I also had a EKG and wore a heart monitor for 48 hours and went through a stress test to check my heart. Everything normal. I will have days where I’m feeling pretty normal but also days where symptoms return. My doctor also said my thyroid levels look normal and only thing is my white cell count is around 4100 and I’m slightly dehydrated. Not sure why I’m still having these symptoms. Also experiencing a fluttering sensation in the middle of the chest which moves up through my throat. I realize that anxiety may be part of the problem but just want to get to the bottom of the issue. Also had an endoscopic exam with an ent which showed nothing abnormal. I do exercise regularly with cardio and weight training. Could lifting heavy weight and certain exercise put a strain on neck and chest muscles that could contribute to the neck and chest pain? That doesn’t explain the fatigue and mood change though. Could this be something related to my thyroid? Would it be helpful to get some sort of imaging of the neck and chest area to check for other issues. Growing more frustrated.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Weight lifting and strenuous physical exertion can cause neck and chest pain. As a first line management you can take analgesics like Acetaminophen or Tramdol for pain relief.
If symptoms persist you can consult an orthopaedician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
