Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been on Dilantin since 1980 when I had a cerebral brain hemorrhage. My Dilantin level has always been around 13 and I have no problem. I have recently changed how I eat and have lost 25 pounds since August. My Dilantin level in August was 23.5, Oct 15.5 & Dec 20.9. Can weight loss cause the change in Dilantin? I may also be anemic at this time and have started taking vitamins. The way we are eating is not radical, just limiting meat & pork to once a week. Chicken twice a week and fish the rest. We are eating whole grains and very little processed food.
Hello, Yes, in some cases weight loss can cause a change in dilantin levels. It has to do with having less body fat. This can cause changes in metabolism. Your doctor can adjust the dose. Congratulations on the weight loss Regards
