Dog Bite On Toe, No Bleeding, Pain, Dog Vaccinated For Rabies. Should I Get Vaccination?
My dog bit me on my toe just a few minutes ago. I don t think it s deep because it did not bleed (but i have to consider the fact that maybe it didn t bleed because it s all nails there), but it hurts even after the shock of being bitten wore off. The pain is tolerable (i ll have to monitor until i wake up in the morning if it will still hurt). Although my dog was vaccinated for anti- rabies , i m still worried. Should i get vaccinated too??
Hello iamian31. Welcome to healthcaremagic.com. I advise you to clean your toe very thouroughly and watch for signs of infection which includes redness and drainage of any sort. Of course your toe is very sore now since you were just bitten but if the pain continues for more than a few days or increases, this can also be a sign of infection as well.
As long as your dog has been vaccinated for rabies as recommended, which is at least once a year in the United States or every three years if your veterinarian is using the shot that lasts three years, your chance of getting rabies from your dog is very, very, very small.
As you monitor your toe, you will also be monitoring your dog and if you notice any changes suggesting rabies such as foaming at the mouth or abrupt changes in behavior, then you will still have time to be vaccinated for rabies. At this time, the rabies vaccinations will cause more pain and expense than they will be worth.

Dog Bite On Toe, No Bleeding, Pain, Dog Vaccinated For Rabies. Should I Get Vaccination?
Hi Welcome to HCM If the dog was vaccinated and there are no actual bite ( as there was no bleeding) you need not worry about the rabies infection. If the pain persist or new symptoms appear, then you may visit a dr. Also you may take a dose of homeo medicine Arnica 200, 4 pills for the same. Thanks & Regards Dr.Anshita Singh Rathore Pune
