Done Hysterectomy. Got Pylonephritis, C-diff. Passing Yellowish Brown Discharge With Blood, Constipation. Right Medication?

I had a hysterectomy in July, and a week later had pylonephritis and C-diff. Since then I have been able to pass a stool, but I am passing yellowish brown discharge with blood in it, and the pylonephritis is still on going. My doctors all keep passing me from one doc to another instead of helping I am desperate to know what to do to help they say I am morbidly constipated but no matter how many laxitives, stool softeners, enemas, and suppositiories I use nothing seems to help. No stool has passed since the diahareah has stopped the 2nd week in August, I have such emmence pressure and pain in my back and sides, and intense spasms both urinary and GI.

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

The commonest causes of constipation are, low fiber in diet, irregular meals, inadequate fluids intake, irritable bowel syndrome or, a growth/polyp in the colon. Alternatively, there may be adhesions kinking over the colon following hysterectomy.

I would therefore recommend that first, take strong laxatives, such as, Syrup Lactulose or Liquid Paraffin (30ml) twice daily, along with psyllium husk/powder twice daily until the bowel movements become perfectly normal.

Thereafter, you should undergo colonoscopy to directly visualize the inside of the colon for evidence of polyps or a growth; or, any other cause of your chronic constipation.

The best way to treat pyelonephritis is to first get urine examination and culture done; isolate the causative bacteria and shortlist antibiotics which will be most effective. One of these antibiotics, when given for an adequate duration will cure pyelonephritis.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he agree with me, order required tests, and- based on the reports- will prescribe suitable treatment as advised.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” rating to my answer, to encourage all doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.

Fond regards and have a nice day
