You are right that after
hysterectomy only estrogens are given as HRT (
hormone replacement therapy ) instead of a estrogen and
progesterone combination,which is basically given to prevent you from uterine cancers.
But since uterus is no more there,hence only estrogens are given except in one condition and that is if extensive
endometriosis is found at the time of surgery.
Estrogen progesterone combination is given,in hysterectomy cases,if you have endometriosis.
As far as estrogen preparations are concerned,there are plenty of them available which range from daily tablet,daily gel application,weekly or bi weekly
transdermal patch or even 6 monthly implants.
You will have to discuss about these with your treating doctor.
Daily oral estrogen preparations available are,Premarin,Ogen etc
