Ear Pierced, Turned Red And Secreting Yellow Liquid, No Paid. How Can I Stop The Secretion?
I need help. So a few days before I got my ear piercing my right ear lobe tended to get dry and flaky and reddish but it wasnt painful or anything. So i thought it was nothing and proceeded to get my ears pierced. After getting my ear's pierced I dont know if it was the piercing itself or the cleaning solution but it has caused my ear to get even more red and secrete more yellow liquid. The liquid however does not give off a smell. The liquid does however dry up and crust off and is not pleasing to look at. What should I do? Btw my ear isnt painful or anything just red and kind of inflated and itchy sometimes.
Hi ! Good afternoon. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
Many individual's skin is very much sensitive to the metal they use after ear pearcing. This causes continuous irritation of the skin around the piercing causing inflammatory fluid to exude from the wound. This fluid gets dried up giving rise to the encrustations as described by you, and also the resulting itching. This may or may not be painful.
If I were your doctor, I would advise you to remove the ear stud/ring from your ears for the time being till the wound heals and the discharge dries up and stops. After a gap, you can go for an ear piercing in the clinic of a doctor with all the aseptic precautions. There are surgical wires/steel available which can be worn till the would heals up, and afterwards one can use gold or other metals. Most of the reactions are due to artificial metals which react with the skin, and so I would advise you against it.
Till then you have to clean the wound with alcohol/savlon and discuss on the above points with your family physician.
Thanks for using healthcaremagic forum for your health query. Wishing you all the luck. Dr Shareef.
