Ear Swollen, Itchy, Tried Tolnaftate Cream, No Relief. How To Get Relieved?
My ear is swollen, and very itchy all around the whole outside of it. I ve tried tolenaftate cream,cortisone 10, and benidril bug bite stik. All worked tempararly, but still itches and is swollen. Little drainage. Most simtomes are around the outside. Ron Kostac 58yrs
Hi and thanks for the query, It looks like you have perichondritis. It is infection of the cartilage of the ear. Please consult an ENT specialist. A swab of the discharge will have to be done to detect the offending organism and a sensitivity test will tell us which antibiotic will work best. It may also be good to test your sugars since this particular infection is more commonly seen in diabetics. If the condition is ignored for a long time it may result in permanent destruction of the cartilage. Take care, Dr Kishori.
