Ears Red After Piercing, Bleeding. Applied Ointment, Alcohol. Right Treatment?

I noticed my daughters ear was very red from her ear piercing and bleeding a little. I took the earring out and noticed a gaping hole from the earing and what looks like a round white skin around where the hole is that looks like it will come off. I put alcohol on it and anticeptic ointment. now have a band aide on it with cream. im scared it looks really bad. Did I do the right thing? do I need to take her to a doctor?

Hello,
Thanks for writing to HCM,
I have read your question,
Generally after first piercing of an ear certain symptoms as shown by everyone since the body reacts to this as it reacts to any other damaged part of the body thanks the redness and pain could come.

Secondarily your child could have developed infection and hence the white substance which is coming out could be pus or residue , as first aid you have done a right thing to put an ointment and spirit but I suggest you take to nearest dermatologist who will after the practical checkup will guide you through correct medication for a quick recovery.

Try to keep the ear clean and dry and make sure that your child doesn't wear the ear ring back until the infection reduces.

Wishing your child a good health,

Welcome to HCM.
There is a development of infection, usually occurs due to improper aseptic precautions.
You have to clean it properly with antiseptic liquid and apply antibiotic cream like fusidic acid.
Also start oral treatment of nsaid to subside inflammation, pain and swelling.
Complete course of antibiotic like amoxy/cloxa to subside infection.
Consult your family physician for proper cleaning, dressing and medical management.
