Epileptic Patient Whose Baby Had Birth Defects Due To Taking Depo, Valproate And Tegretol. Is It Due To Anticonvulsant Medication?

I'm a court reporter that took a doctor's depo, and I'm just trying to find a medication that I can't find anywhere, and I'm very familiar with most medications. This deposition concerns an epileptic woman who baby had birth defects, supposedly because of the anticonvulsive meds she was taking, some of them being valproate, Tegretol,, etc,. but I cannot find mi

celin (spelled phonetically) anywhere. Would you happen to know the spelling?

hello,
thank you for asking this question.

Epidemiological data suggest that there may be an association between the use of carbamazepine during pregnancy and congenital malformations, including spina bifida. There have also been reports that associate carbamazepine with developmental disorders and congenital anomalies (e.g., craniofacial defects, cardiovascular malformations, hypospadias, and anomalies involving various body systems.

The answer is yes it can be from the anticonvulsant medication
