Experiencing Jaw, Ear And Throat Pain, Difficulty Swallowing, Have Had Cold. Is It Serious?

Hi, I woke up during the night and was experiencing a pain in my jaw/right side of throat/right ear, when I swallow or open my mouth wide. My ear hurts slightly when I'm not moving it also. It has happened the past few nights but not this bad. Pain occurs when I: swallow, breath in through nose, put pressure on the left side of my jaw and when I open and close my mouth. I've had a little bit if a cold the past few days but nothing serious or bad. What could be causing this?

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

From your description, I suspect oropharyngitis to be the cause of your symptoms and the ear pain is a referred pain from this infection. Oropharyngitis is infection of part of the mouth and throat probably by viral or bacterial invasion. It is more likely viral given that you had a cold a few days before this happened.
All you will probably need is an analgesic medication to relief the pain.
Also given that the symptoms are getting worst, it will be best for you to book an appointment with a doctor for proper review.

hope this helps
