Experiencing Moderated To Severe Chest Pains After Heart Attack. Possible Nerve Damage ?
Had a heart attack on Nov. 3/12. Triple bypass on Nov. 6/12. September 04/13 am still experiencing moderate to severe chest wall pain? Have angiogram scheduled on Monday the 9th. I believe it is possible nerve damage from the dissection of the Rima and Lima arteries? The pain I am experiencing is very similar to the pain I had the first two weeks after surgery. Feels like someone has their foot on my chest and it gets worse with stress or exertion. My question is would it help to have the sternum wires remove and have you in you practise had patients who experienced this pain and what has them to cope with the depression and stress that this causes? Thank You
Removal of sternal wires is unlikely to help. Stress EKG / preferably with isotope / is necessary to exclude recurrent ischemia from blocked stent or native vessel disease progression – in view of relation to exertion Problems like Dressler’s syndrome need to be considered... Depression may supplement Incidental issues of the spine and nerve root compression could contribute Antidepressant (like SSRI or SNRI) / anti-epileptics (like gabapentin) raise the pain threshold and help in the meantime... The treating doctor alone can suggest further based on his assessment of the situation.
Take care Wishing speedy recovery God bless Good luck
