hi i was asleep lastnight and i woke in the middle of the night with a pain in my chest everytime i took a deep breath, the pain calmed down a little after about 10-15 minutes and when i woke up this morning the pain was still there when i take deep breaths but it isn't as bad as it was lastnight, please help?
Hi! I had gone through your query and understand your concern. If I were your treating doctor I would came with two possibilities: -The first thing I would try to rule out heart disease. If this is the first time that this happen and you never had a heart problem you can wait some days and see what happen. If this doesn't goes away or repeated I suggest to consult with a cardiologist and he will do all the necessary studies to exclude heart disease. -The second possibility and most probably is that you have gastroesophageal reflux disease which is a condition when the stomach acid moves up into esophageus (this happens especially during the night) leading to burning upper abdominal pain, chest pain. The stomach acid can pass to airways leading to pain and breathless. You can take PPI drug (Omeprazol) and if this pain is relieved this serves also as a diagnostic test.
Hope I was able to help you. Take care Dr.Rovena
