Experiencing Painful Urination. Exposed To Pool Chemicals? Continue Swimming?

My 13 year old son has recently joined a swim team and has experienced painful urination on a couple of occasions. He suspects it may be related to the now-frequent (3 days a week) exposure to pool chemicals (probably chlorine). Is this a possibility and if so, how can we manage this so that he can continue his team participation?

Dear Ma'am,

Sorry to hear about your son's problem. It seems unlikely that his symptoms are due to chlorine exposure. These symptoms can be caused due to an infection, if he does not dry his private parts completely after a swim. Also you should encourage him to take more fluids and water, as lack of fluid intake can also lead to such symptoms.
There is no reason why he should be stopped from participating in the team.

Hoping for the best.
