Experiencing Shortness Of Breath, Discomfort And Anxiety
Hi, I am 67 yrs old and the only one left out of 9 children, 7 from heart problems. I have something that is happening to my heart starting about 4 months ago. It is an ache and fells like a valve or missing a beat. It leaves me weak and short of breath. However light excercise seems to not be a problem. I am 7 1/2 tall and 200 lbs, weight is over my usual weight about 45 lbs. I used to be an avid runner and always active. I was wondering about anxiety or something. Thanks Dianne
Hello Dianne! Thank you for asking on HCM! Regarding your concern I would say: Yes? Anxiety may exhibits with such complains; but confirming anxiety needs a careful medical interview and frequently is a differential diagnosis by exclusion of other organic causes. So we have to rule out any cardiac disorders by performing a resting ECG, and a visit to your cardiologist. If he judges reasonable may recommend you a cardiac ultrasound coupled with a stress test and probably lab tests (cardiac enzymes). Only after excluding cardiac and other organs involvements we may think of anxiety. Hope to have been helpful to you! Greetings from Dr. Iliri
