Experiencing Slow Metabolism After Quitting Smoking

Hello. I stopped smoking for six months and since then, I have had issues with not able to go to thebathroom on a regular basis as I used to. It seems as though my metabolism has slowed. Also, when I am able to go, the amount that exits is not much and there seems to be a stopage--like the muscle closes and no more. What should I do? Thank you, James

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Usually, the smoking cessation side effects wear off after 2-3 weeks of the same; if persistent, have to evaluate for the additional causes as GI motility disturbances or else.

Primary relief with plenty of liquids, high fiber diet, bulk-forming laxative as ispaghula husk and prokinetic agents as levosulpiride will definitely serve to provide the best relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
