Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Fall On Knee, Bruising And Swollen, Lump Above Knee, Painful, Trouble Bending
Hopefully you can help... I fell very hard on my knees (right hit hardest) three weeks ago. I did not have any symptoms until the other night. It is now bruising, is swollen, developing a lump above and below the knee, is hot to the touch, and extremely painful from the knee all the way into the arch of my foot . It is constantly throbbing. I am also having trouble bending it.
There seems to be some form of active inflammation as evident by swelling, hot to touch and extremely painful knees. I would definitely advise you to visit an orthopedician and get an x-ray of the knees and a complete blood picture. The symptoms you mentioned are on both knees or only on the right knee? It could be due to a meniscus/ligament injury or it could be due to an infection in the joint.Any history of associated fever?
In the meantime, I would advise you to take an over the counter pain relief medication like Brufen after food. Please visit your doctor at the earliest.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
