Feel Very Tired, No Energy, Coughing Up Mucous. Was On Fluid Pills. Stopped Because Of Chest Pains. Had Cardiac Arrest. Treatment?

previously my fathers symptoms tired a lot no energy, coughing up mucous a lot...a year ago his doctor put him on fluid pills but he stopped because they said the gave him chest pain... anyway a year later these are his symptoms...ended up going into cardiac arrest and having cpr done on him as well as being defibrillated .. stabalized him and got him transported to the Heart institute where a stint wasput inplace and another artery blownout... His hospital stay was 4 days... he had fluid on his lungs and gave him fluid pills to take it off he was coughing up mucous inhospital... they checked his mucous to make sure there was no infection..there wasn't..His chest remained sore but they said that was fromthe cpr performed on him and would go away in 4-6 weeks.. They gave him meds to come home, but didnt give him medication for fluid?? They said he should go see a lung specialist...can't get into doctor till tuesday morn with him..I am concerned because he is coughing up a lot of mucous..he does a small walk every day and eats but only a little.. I make him eat a banana a day but he isn't a big fruit guy...Is this mucous normal after this surgery? or worse because of his cold? or ?

Hi Thank for choosing HCM, you did not mentioned the age of your father, whatever history you stated here is suggestive of either congestive cardiac failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, may have pulmonary hypertension, productive cough is more common in this etiology, the over all clinical picture can be cleared by means of of x ray chest study, and routine blood counts, for to reduce the mucous,, short course of steroid can try,, Dexamehtosone ( if the patient is not diabetic), with brochodialator, if he his on antihypertensive ACE inhibitors then stop it,, and try another anti- hypertensive drug,, if he is on diuretic then potassium sparing would be good ,,take care of your father Have nice day
