Feeling Tastelessness While Eating, Stuffed Toothbrush With Toothpaste. How Long Will It Take To Go?
Hi. I am just wondering what caused me to have my tongue to feel tasteless when eating. I think that one of the reasons is that I stuffed toothbrush with toothpaste (mint flavor) for to long as I got distracted by watching the television. Is it possible? And how long will it take for it to go away? It has been more than 20 hours after brushing my teeth yesterday night.
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The tasteless feeling is due to the prolonged use or contact of toothpaste material on your tongue resulting in numbness.
I would suggest you to rinse your mouth thoroughly using warm saline.
Use chlorhexidine mouthrinse to gargle.
Floss your tongue using tongue scrapers.
Usually such numbness lasts for 24 hours only.
Please be careful while brushing your teeth, and only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste is usually used for brushing your teeth.
Drink plenty of water and fluids.
If symptoms persists, please do visit your dentist and get a thorough evaluation done.
Also, intake of spicy, salty food has to be limited.
Take care.
According to your history i suspect you have got an allergic reaction of mint over the tongue mucosa.
Long standing effect of mint over the tongue may have developed temporary numbness to th tongue because of which you are feeling tastelessness.
This feeling is transistory and will subside in a day or few do not worry.
i would suggest you to go for symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine.
This will give soothing effect to the tongue mucosa.
Tasteless feeling of the tongue ca be due to allergy to some chemicals like toothpaste or can be due to nutritional deficiencies.
I would suggest you to rinse your mouth with lukewarm saline rinses, use antiseptic mouthwash rinses.
Clean the tongue gently with a tongue scraper or a soft bristle toothbrush.
Take vitamin suplements.
Take plenty of fluids and keep yourself hydrated.
If the symptoms persits or worsen visit the Dentist and get the checkup done.
Hope this helps out.
Regards..
