Feet Paining Due To Dry And Hard Skin. Can I Clean With Dettol After Soaking In Baking Soda?
Goodevening.
I have extremely dry feet and hardening skin on both outer sides (next to my small toes) on both feet.
For a few days, at times, I would feel a piercing pain in my right outer side of my right foot. It seemed that the hardened skin had a cut which obviously is right down to the softer skin below.
I soaked it in warm water with baking soda but after appr. 4 hours I know felt another piercing pain in the same spot.
I did not bandage the foot after soaking.
I would like to clean the area with Dettol and place a bandage over the area. Is that recommendable since I already soaked it in baking soda?
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. From your history and description, you may be having severe fissures in your feet or it could also be plantar psoriasis. I would advise you not to use dettol as it could irritate and dry your skin further. Apply an ointment containing povidine iodine like betadine into the fissure twice a day for 10 to 15 days till it heals. Then use an ointment containing 12% salicylic acid at bedtime on the thick, rough skin. You could also use a mousturiser containing urea, lactic acid, glycolic acid in a cream or petrolatum base.Use this on a regular basis to prevent recurrences. Hope this helps you. Take care.
