Fishy Odor After Having Sex. Have Constant Vaginal, Bacterial, Yeast Infections. Treatment?

I tend to get a fishy odor after love making. My body is one of those that retain yeast more so than others. He loves his beer & we know that it's high in yeast also. Over & over have we experience this issue & is of great concern for the both of us. Vaginal Bacterial & Yeast Infections are what my doctor constantly treats me for with antibiotics. My husband's appointment has been changed & he too needs treatment. How can we be effectively treat once & for all this reoccurring problem?

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

First of all, a fishy smelling vagina, especially after sexual intercourse if the sign of bacterial vaginosis (this sign is called Telltale sign). For effective treatment, I would advise a vaginal smear and a urine culture and sensitivity examination, which will provide information on the most effective medication, that can be used to permanently cure you of your infection. During the treatment period, and for at least 7-10 days after the last dose of therapy, you will have to abstain from any and all forms of sexual contact.

Your partner will also have to be treated for the respective infection he has, and will also have to similarly abstain from sexual contact. Once 7-10 days have passed, since the last day of therapy, you along with your partner will have to re-visit your doctor, and confirm the absence and sucessful treatment of the infections, deeming both of you infection-free; after which you should not have any recurrences. But, if these instructions are not followed, you will continue to have recurrent infections.

Other infections that can cause a fishy odor are:
-Bacterial vaginosis (smell worsens after sex, is called Telltale sign)
-Chlamydia
-Yeast infections
-Douching
-Vaginal pH imbalance (from semen and vaginal secretion combination, treat with warm water and vinegar solution)

As your doctor has also treated you for yeast infections (WITH ANTIBIOTICS? as mentioned by you). This is wrong, and yeast infections will have to be treated with anti-fungal vaginal creams and even oral tablets if required. Please request for accurate treatment in accordance to your diagnosis.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.
