For How Long Should Titanium Rod Be Placed In Leg?
hi there. I had been in an accident and i broke my tibia and fibula back in 2003. Doctors put a titanium rod in my leg. Now my leg is healed but the rod is still in place. I am kind of quite worried about the side effects of the titanium rod in my leg. A lot of time is passed and i m still not sure if i should get it removed or i can leave it in my leg for long term? i am 25 years old. Please guide. Thanks
Hi,Thanks for your query. After going through your query I came to know that you were put titanium rod in your leg. Your fracture united , but rod is still in place . It is not necessary to remove these rods. These cause no reaction in body. In my opinion think about rod removal only if you have any problem, otherwise leave it as such. Furthermore it will be difficult to remove it as 11 years has already passed and at of time of fracture you was 14years of age so lot of bone might be formed about it. More detail can be discussed after seeing x-ray of leg.You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it. I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health. Take care
