hi! gud evening! i want to know what will be the medication for a g6pd patient suffering from amoebiasis? my child is only taking metronidazole.

patients known to have g6pd deficiency should always tell the treating physician about it and medicines of sulfa and medicines names ending with quins should not be taken
for amoebiasis metronidazoles/tinidazoles can be taken .and for chronic cases combination with dilonaxied furoate may be given

Hello.Welcome to HCM forum.Metronidazole is active against vegetative amoebas.For chronic disease when Entamoeba cysts,not vegetative forms,are in stool then Diloxanide Furoate is best.So better give a combination of metronidazole with Diloxanide furoate.Consult your doctor for the dose.Thanks and good luck.

Metronidazole should be combined with ornidazole to cover the whole infection. but before deciding the dose his weight and other symptoms must be watched. plz do not do self prescription and visit the pediatrician for perfect diagnosis. oral rehydration solution must be given to prevent dehydration.
