Gained Weight, Irregular Period. Thyroid Results Showed Elevated TSH Level. Will It Affect Pregnancy Chances?

Hi. Yesterday, I got my thyroid results which indicated elevated TSH 8.5 and normal FT3 AND FT4 levels. I have put on lot of weight and experiencing irregular menstruation periods. I am very much worried, coz I am going to get married in 5 months. Will it affect my pregnancy in the future? Will I be able to come back to my normal weight if I take the right medications?

Hi and thanks for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this abnormal test level and the weight gain. I am happy and sure you are excited looking forward to your wedding and marriage live. I wish you the very best in this light.

Weight gain is a classic sign of a poorly functioning thyroid gland(hypothyroidism). If this should be the lone contributing factor to your weight gain, then with appropriate medications you would regain your initial weight. So be cool on this.

As concerns pregnancy, if this hypothyroidism should go unchecked, your chances of having a pregnancy are going to be reduced. With the right medications, here would be no problem. I will like to advice that follow up closely and plan with your doctor before getting pregnant to make sure that the pregnancy goes on with no risk to you or the baby resulting from this.

I hope this addresses your query fully and provides enough information and reassurance to you. Feel free to ask for more responses if need be.
I wish you the best of health.
