Gaining Weight After Having Thyronorm For Hypothyroid. Will Change In Dosage Help In Reducing Weight?

last year i was detected with hypothyroid and my weight at that time was 75 kgs. i am 26 years old. i started with 75 mcg thyronorm and i started gaining weight. in fact i changed my diet and still i have gained and i am presently 84kgs. 10 kgs in a year is a lot especially if i am taking medicine to cure my problem. now my dosage has been changed to 4 days 75mcg and 3 days 100 mcg. will 3 days 100 mcg help me reduce weight? do doctors prescrible 2 separate dosages together. My TSH level in the begining was 22 and now it is 6.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this thyroid problem and the weigh gain issues. Yes, your TSH is still high and weight gain still suggestive of a hypothyroid state. An increase in dose would be a wise decision to help control your symptoms and the weight gain as well as ensure that the TSH returns to the normal range.
There is no standard dose for prescribing a thyroid medications. The dosage is constantly being modified depending on the response to treatment. A doctor may choose to start with 50mcg, and another 25mcg. They are both correct and only monitoring would tell what the final best adapted dose would be for you.

I will suggest that they increase the dose to 100mg everyday and monitor to make adjustments if it proves to be too much and you exhibit signs of excess thyroid hormone replacement with sweating, rapid heart beat, etc

I hope you find this helpful. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to request for more information if need be. I wish you the best of health.
Thanks.
