Getting Dizzy. Heart Races, Checked The Blood Pressure Pulse. Chest Xray No Problem. Suggested Syncope Hypotension. Treatment?
My 14 yr old daughter has been experiencing episodes of getting dizzy for the last four months. In this last month she has been blacking out. She passed out in front of me then after was confused about what happened. I immediately took her to the er. They did a series of tests because before she gets dizzy her heart races. They did a stand/sit test to see blood pressure pulse rate. Sitting seemed to stay at 90 but when she stood it jumped to 188, then 153, then back to 180. The nurse had her sit and she said the machine must be messing up. She had someone help her and the results were pretty much similar. Her chest xray showed no enlargement of the heart. They sent us home saying she had syncope, and ortostatic hypotension. I obtained her blood work and she had high mpv of 11.4 , low sgpt and sgot. She goes to the doctor monday but this morning she started bleeding out of her ear for no reason. Her dad has a genetically bad heart massive infraction at age 34 as well as itp... chronic. My mom suffers from leukaemia. I am very worried these docs arent sure what to do. What should my next step be?? Thank you

The body's balancing mechanism is in the inner ear. An ENT (Ear Nose Throat) specialist is the one to see - they have special tests to confirm or exclude the contribution of the ear. This is particularly important in the presence of bleeding.
If the ear is excluded, she has to be followed up by a neurologist. / EEG and/or MRI may be needed to evaluate atypical seizures and vascular anomalies...
If there are no clues, she has to be investigated by a Cardiologist! HOLTER (24 to 48 hour ambulatory monitoring – for arrhythmia) / ECHOcardiogram (for clot) – may all be necessary for further assessment and assistance.
In the mean time, medicines like betahistine or flunarazine alone or in combination may help
The treating doctor may suggest them depending on need, based on his assessment of the situation.
