Going To Have Laparoscopy Surgery To Remove Appendix, Cyst On Right Ovary. What Type Of Recovery And Pain Should I Expect Once Surgery Is Completed?
I am going to have laparoscopy surgery to remove my appendix and a 4cm cyst on my right ovary. The gynecologist is not sure if the right ovary will be removed until she sees how it looks inside of me. A general surgeon will be in the operating room to remove the appendix. Last month I was treated with antibiotics for an abscess on my perforated appendix. The abscess is gone but there is some scar tissue where the abscess had been. I am 36 years old, 210 lbs., and have never had any type of surgery before. What type of recovery and pain should I expect once my surgery is completed next week? I am nervous and worry so that this procedure will go smoothly without complications. Do a lot of people have an appendix and cyst on the ovary removed during the same operation? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, Thanks for the query. As you are having both inflamed appendix and ovarian cyst, both can be removed at same time. By this future complications due to these problems can be prevented and need of second surgery can be avoided. Removing appendix and cyst at a time will not prolong the postoperative recovery period. Usually in laparoscopic surgery, patient can go home on the first postoperative day. Recovery will also be quicker compared with open abdominal procedure. If possible doctor will definitely try to save your ovary. Even they remove one ovary, it usually won't affect the fertility or hormonal function much. Take care.
