Got Elbowed In The Face, Tooth Has Cut The Oral Commissure. Need Stitches?
Hello, recently a friend of mine got elbowed in the face.. it seems as if their tooth has cut the oral commissure(I guess that s the term for the corner of their mouth where the lips meet) the laceration seems to be about half a centimeter deep if not a little more. I placed a ice pack on the side of the mouth with a sterile pad and had the swish warm salt water... do you think they will need stitches and how will I be able to tell?
Hello and welcome to hcm forum, Thanks for posting your query. Lacerated commissure area usually heals by its own if it is a minor injury. Please do visit an oral surgeon and get the lacerated area approximated with suturing to promote wound healing. Prior to suturing, clean the area irrigating with betadine and warm saline. Take complete course of antibiotics after consulting with your surgeon. Avoid lip biting. If teeth are protruded, orthodontic appliances can be put to correct them. Take care.
hello since skin around corner of mouth is always stretched when one opens a mouth, so suturing the cut will be a good option for healing so what i would advise you that you take your friend to a dentist who will get the stitches done in the meanwhile maintain proper oral health and after suturing do a lots of lukewarm saline rinses hope this helps
